Ogembo police station in Kisii County will be relocated to provide more space for the expansion of Gucha District Hospital, Governor James Ongwae has said.

He spoke during an inspection tour of development projects in Ogembo town on Wednesday where he said Gucha hospital will be expanded in order to decongest the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.

“We have reached an agreement with the national government representatives on the ground to have Ogembo police station relocated to allow for the expansion of the hospital,” said Ongwae.

County Commissioner Chege Mwangi who was present concurred with the Governor saying health services were critical for socio-economic development of any society hence the decision to relocate the police station.

“This police station was established 20 years ago. Over time, the population has grown and the demand for services increased. We have discussed and agreed that the police station be accommodated at the Ogembo bus park,” said Mwangi.

The multi-million Ogembo bus park was built by the defunct Local Government but it has been lying idle after the National Environment Management Authority raised concern over River Gucha.

Later, the Governor chaired a leaders meeting at the Gucha sub-county offices where he assured residents that he was committed to addressing their development concerns.
