A nominated senator has hit out on Kisii MCAs for allegedly spending most of their time in the governor’s office and neglecting their responsibilities on the ground.

Speaking on Thursday at Nyamache sub-county at a funeral, Janet Ongera made the allegations that were not received well by a section of MCAs in attendance.

She accused the MCAs of losing the legislative will and putting their selfish interests ahead of their main functions of legislating and over sighting the executive arm of the county government.

“I wonder what has gone wrong with our MCAs. They never want to leave the governor’s office (James Ongwae) instead of carrying out their legislative roles. They are always roaming in the corridors seeking favours from the executive and this is the time for that habit to stop. I hope they will be taught a lesson in 2017,” she said.

Ongera further accused some MCAs of permanently moving to Kisii town despite the county fueling their vehicles to visit their respective wards frequently.

“I know some who never want to leave town despite their vehicles being fueled by the government. They are acting with impunity and I hope our people are watching,” she added.

However, the claims were dismissed by a section of MCAs led by Bombaba-Borabu’s Koina Onyancha who accused the senator of ignorance in matters pertaining ward representation.

“The Senator has a right to air opinions, but the fact remains she is always in Nairobi and we are in touch with our people. It’s upon the people to decide whether we have done our duties or not. But it’s wrong to judge us when you don’t even have an idea what we do,” he said.
