Nyaribari Chache MP Richard Tong’i has called on opposition leaders to accord President Uhuru Kenyatta the respect he deserves.

Tong’i said there was need for the local leadership and residents to work in unity with the government of the day to foster development.

Speaking on Tuesday during a funds drive of more than 16 churches at Nyamecheo primary school at Ibeno his constituency, the MP said the president was the nation’s unifying factor.

“We only have one president who serves as our unifying factor. Let us cooperate for development purposes,” he said.

The MP’s remarks come after a recent incident in which a group of residents engaged in shouts as the president’s motorcade passed by Kondele market on Sunday.

In September 2014, hecklers disrupted a presidential function in Migori County during an anti-malaria campaign.

The legislator added that political decisions had their own time and should wait for campaigns’ time.

“The presidency is an office that we ought to have respect unlike what is happening currently in the country,” he said.

“Election time will come and we will vote based on development track record”, he added.

Some ODM diehards have termed the NYS projects a scandal and plot to rig elections.

He urged his constituents to register as voters in the forthcoming voter registration exercise that begins on February 15.
