Maseno residents have been sensitised on effective ways of family planning.
The sensitisation was done by a Non-Governmental Organisation.
The event kicked off on Monday at Maseno and was full of information on effective family planning.
The head of the Mama-Care Organization, Plato Griffins asked the locals to maintain small families that they can easily manage.
“We are in a new era of maintaining small happy sustainable families. The current economy does not allow us to have large families. There are cheap effective ways you can always use to ensure your families are sustainable. These include the use of condoms, use of family planning pills and injections, natural means such as safe days. These methods are safe and you should not shy from using them,” said Griffins.
He also urged the residents to be open to another in relationship and discuss ways of managing their families.
“Speak openly with your partner without shying. Use of these contraceptives does not mean your partner will start cheating on you as people think. ‘Panga Uzazi’," he added.
Residents where educated on the importance of family planning.
“Family planning ensures happy sustainable families. It allows you raise the number of children your resources can comfortably handle. It also prevents Sexually Transmitted Diseases but this is exclusive to condoms. It also allows you enjoy intimacy without worrying much about another baby,” said Mike Okoth one of the team members.
The locals were also taken through private counseling free of charge for those who were interested and given pamphlets containing information on family planning methods.
The locals responded positively and promised to adhere to what they had been told.
