More than 100 farmers in Gathima-ini, Thika East Sub-County on Monday benefited from tissue culture banana suckers.
Speaking while giving out the suckers, area MCA Cecilia Wamaitha said the farmers need to embrace modern farming methods.
"We cannot do the same thing over and over again and expect different results. We need to change how we do things and that is why today we begin by giving you these banana suckers which will benefit you,” said Wamaitha.
Wamaitha said more farmers will benefit from the banana suckers in the coming days.
Thika East Agricultural Officer Stephen Muia who was also present said his officers will be on the ground to offer any assistance that the farmers may require.
"Farmers should feel free to talk to us in as far as the bananas are concerned so that we can assist them where they may need help,” said Muia.
Patrick Mwariri, a farmer, who benefited from the suckers expressed optimism that the bananas will yield good results.
"Much has been said about these bananas and now that I have them, I hope I will get good yields,” he said.
