Over 900 boys have registered for the Kikuyu association circumcision ceremony scheduled to start on Saturday.

Speaking at the association’s office in Kamwangi on Wednesday morning, Njoroge Mumu, the group’s secretary said the number of candidates is expected to increase in the next two days.

Mumu who also monitors the operations of the association’s programmes, said the boys would be put into groups of eight during the counselling sessions but would be converging together at night for traditional talks.

“We have so far registered 974 boys who have fully paid the registration fees, we expect more by the end of this week. Our boys will be gathered in groups of eight during the counselling sessions but will convene in one hall at night for cultural talks,” he said.

“We have spoken with the area assistant chiefs who have assured us of adequate security. We will also seek help from some elders from Nyeri to assist us in the process,” he added.

He, however, said that only 1,500 boys would be accommodated and thus urged the interested boys to apply before Thursday when the registration process would be closed.

Area commissioner Daniel Nyamiti is expected to officiate the opening circumcision ceremony, he said.
