Panic is gripping President Kenyatta's political allies due to low voter registration turn-out in his strongholds.

Ruiru lawmaker Esther Gathogo has raised concerns over the issue in her region and urged residents to register.

Speaking during a church service at the Salvation Army in Githurai on Sunday, Gathogo said there is low turn put in most centres.

“I am urging Ruiru residents who have not registered as voters to do so before the end of the exercise,” said the lawmaker.

Gathogo warned that waiting for the last minute rush will see many people locked out of the exercise.

Several legislators and other political activists have raised the issue with the number of already registered voters saying number might lock President Kenyatta out of state house in the 2017 poll.

This comes in the backdrop of reports that the opposition's strongholds are leading in voter registration turnout.
