Residents of Uasin Gishu County have been advised to allow their children under the age of five to being vaccinated against Polio.

Kenya National Union of Nurses (Knun) Chairman John Bii said the vaccine is safe for children.

"Parents shouldn't be afraid because the Polio drugs are safe, they have no side effects on children," he said.

He added: "Polio vaccination protects children against Polio disease, let's cooperate to eradicate Polio disease and its effects in our society. Let's give our children better lives by giving them the vaccine." 

Polio Immunization program house-to-house strategy in is set to cover 14 Polio prone counties. 

In Uasin Gishu, the exercise kicked off on March 5, and is expected to end on March 9 this year.
