Parents across Kisii County have thrown their support behind the directive by Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i that all secondary schools in the country must have functional websites by June 2016.

Speaking in a parents meeting that was held on Monday at Itierio Boys High School, the parents asked all schools to embrace and start implementing the initiative.

Mr Douglas Ogechi, a parent, urged all secondary schools to ensure they have functional websites to enhance public access to information, adding that selections will be done online 2017.

“The directive will help us parents to know the whereabouts of the school, the performance and any other news that is good for us,” he said.

He pointed out that lack of electricity would provide challenges as most of the schools in some areas were not yet connected.

Ogechi thanked the CS for streamlining the education sector, saying that as a result parents have been protected from greedy principals who charge exorbitant fees.

While launching Form One selection last week Dr Matiang’i asked all secondary schools to ensure they have functional websites to enhance public access to information, adding that selections will be done online in 2017.
