Kibera parents have been urged to support their children not only academically but also in co-curricular activities.
Speaking to this writer on Wednesday, head of talent in Magoso Primary School Hezekiah Ogira said children have different skills and abilities that if well managed, can improve their lifestyles.
“We have children who are bright in class and dull in co-curricular activities. We have others who are not bright but are good in other activities away from class work. These pupils are equally important in our lives as parents. Therefore we should learn to listen to what they want and see their strong points. This will help us nature them without hesitation,” he said.
Ogira said some parents are too mean to their children in a way that they cane them if they are found in other activities in school.
He said such parents need guidance as they could be “killing’ their children’s future”.
“The children can be very bright but fail to get employment due to the high rate of unemployment in Kenya. However, those who have talent and skills can survive the joblessness since they can be self employed,” he added.
