Parents in Kangundo Sub-County have been advised to keep a keen eye on their children during the holiday to curb increased cases of defilement.

Speaking in her office on Wednesday, Kangundo Sub-County children officer Susan Ouma said many children fall victim to sex predators during holidays due to lack of proper guidance.

“As parents, you should know where your child is or where they are going, and who they are with, to be able to tell whenever a problem occurs,” said Ouma.

The officer also said that many cases of defilement are reported too late thereby making it difficult to carry out proper investigations.

She said parents should report defilement cases immediately to aid investigations.

Ouma urged head teachers and chiefs to expose defilement cases in their places of work as many of the cases that have been reported usually occur in the village or in schools.

She said reporting these cases to the authorities in time allows quick intervention and ensures justice to the victim.

The children officer warned parents parents against colluding with culprits by settling the cases out of court.

She called for tougher punishment for child defilers, and warned parents against neglecting their children, which she said contributes to the rise in defilement cases.
