Property of unknown value was on Sunday morning burnt into ashes at the Madaraka market in Makongeni, Thika Sub-County in a fire that started around 3am.

Guards at the market, which is the largest in Thika, suspect that the fire might have been started by unknown people who they say arrived at the market at around 9pm on Saturday night and demanded to be let in.

Kamenu and Hospital ward MCA Mary Hussein and Mwangi Wamwangi are holding a meeting with the market’s leadership to get a way forward.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established.
