Nakuru head of communication Eddy Kimani has confirmed that the plans to construct a multi-billion industrial park in the county are still on.

The agri-business park, which was first announced in 2013, and expected to cost the county government Sh180 million, was part of the county’s five-year integrated development plan to be implemented by 2017.

It was expected to create jobs for more than 10,000 residents in the area.

On Thursday, Kimani said the county was still conducting feasibility studies on the land near Hell's Gate National Park.

“This is a long term plan and hence the reason why the park is taking some time to be set up. However, the plans are still on and soon it will be operational,” he added.

Kimani who spoke to this writer on the phone said the county could not allocate any land to companies that had approached them for lease at this time.

“We need the whole study to be conducted before we can give out the land to various people,” he added.

His views come after a cross section of residents raised concern that the park was not forthcoming.

Directors of various companies who had sought to have land allocated to them were turned down by the county.

“Despite presenting our proposal to the county government we are yet to receive any response three years down the line,” said the director of a company who sought anonymity for fear of being victimised.
