A warning has been sent to law enforcers in Rongai sub-county who are on the spotlight for allegedly overseeing an upsurge of illicit brews by protecting the brewers.

This is according to Rongai deputy county commissioner Charity Macharia who promised to call for the sacking of unscrupulous officers for what he termed to as “ignoring a presidential directive.”

Speaking at Rongai town on Friday after chairing a security meeting in the area, Macharia regretted the fact that the influx of illicit brews was hindering service delivery and productivity.

She called for a good working relationship between police officers, the local administration and residents saying that everybody had a role to play in ending the vice.

“It is sad that the people we have entrusted to ensuring law and order are the same people breaking the law,” she wondered.

Macharia urged the police to intensify swoops in villages and back street bars where she believes the main distributors of the illicit liquor have retreated to.

“To avoid brushing the shoulders with law enforcers, please comply; acquire operating licences, operate within the stipulated time, don’t allow teenagers in your premises and sell genuine products,” she advised.

Chiefs, their assistants, village elders and Nyumba Kumi representatives were urged to facilitate the crackdown at the local level so as to yield collective results.
