Police in Lari have intensified search for seven armed gunmen who allegedly broke into Total Petrol station in Lari town and stole Sh200,000 on Sunday.
According to police, the seven gunmen raided the petrol station at 2am on Sunday before escaping with the money and other valuables.
Confirming the incident, area acting police commander Dorothy Nahashon said that two armed thugs wearing Administration Police jungle jackets walked into the station at 2am pretending they were patrolling the vicinity.
The police commander said that the two thugs immediately brandished guns before tying up two guards at the petrol station.
She said five other thugs emerged and broke into the petrol station offices and stole the money.
The acting police boss said that the search for the armed gunmen who she said escaped on foot has been launched.
“Detectives have established crucial leads that will lead to the arrest of the armed gunmen behind the theft,” said Nahashon when she spoke to journalists at Lari police station.
The acting police boss said that the thugs made away with CCTV cameras but said that detectives are determined to ensure the culprits are arrested and charged.
She said that the two guards at the police station will record statements with the police and also aid in investigations.
This is the second time the petrol station is raided. In January, armed thugs tried to break into the station before their robbery attempt was thwarted.
The acting police commander warned that police will act tough on criminal gangs.
She also urged members of the public to share information with the police on the whereabouts of criminal goons.
