Police are investigating an incident whereby a carton full of fake currency was found lying abandoned by unknown assailants in a bush in Thika. The carton was found early on Thursday morning hidden in a bush along the Thika – MKU road near the common wealth cemetery where it was noticed by the members of the public who informed the police.Confirming the incident was the Thika police boss Mr. Erastus Muthamia who said that they have recovered a total of Kshs. 970,000 which is all fake money that may have been used to lure out business people in the area
The police boss also said that the source of the money and the reason for its abandonment is still unclear; they however suspect that the minting of the money was being done within the environs of the sub county but revealed that they have launched investigations and that they are confident that they will get substantial evidence with regards to the matter.
“We have launched the investigations to know where this fake money came from. I am urging all the business people in the area to be on the look out in order to ensure that they are not cheated with fake money which could lead to losses,” the officer said.
He however urged business people to go on without fear since they would not rest until the culprits are brought to justice.
