The International Day for Water is marked every March 22 following the adoption of Agenda 21 of the 1992 United Nation's conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
It is for this reason that the UN-Water in conjunction with International Labour Organisation, have chosen the theme for 2016 celebrations as; "Water and Jobs."
In a letter from the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, department of National Water Services, the Principal Secretary, Eng L. Simitu, has invited stakeholders in Nakuru County to participate fully during the ongoing preparatory meetings towards a successful event in interpreting the theme.
The ministry organises the celebrations each year together with sector institutions and other stakeholders.
This year's event will be held at Mirera Primary School in Naivasha.
According to the principal secretary, this year's theme is well exemplified by the water related jobs created by the flower farms, tourist lodges, irrigated agriculture and geothermal energy production.
