The Government has declared November 26 a public holiday and a national day of prayer and reflection as Kenya hosts Pope Francis.

In a statement sent to newsroom on Tuesday, the State House spokesperson Manoah Esipisu said that the public holiday is timely as it will give Kenyans ample time to reflect in prayers.

“As we are privileged to be hosting His Holiness the Pope at the time, he will set the tone for the day,” reads the statement.

The Pope is scheduled to arrive in Nairobi on Wednesday evening for a three-day visit, the first leg of his historic African tour.

During his trip, the pope is expected to deliver public masses, meet religious and political leaders and promote a message of reconciliation and unity.

Nakuru county governor Kinuthia Mbugua has also welcomed the pope's visit.
