Fr Maloba Wesonga, a 44-year-old Catholic priest, will embark on a 2,000 km fundraising walk initiative to build his new church and to inspire Christians to renew their faith.
The priest will walk across 15 counties on foot and will reflect with Christian faithfuls along the journey of faith on issues that weigh-in into today’s church such as marriage, sanctity of life, youth empowerment, parents as role models for their children, influence of new media and servant leadership.
Fr Wesonga is a son to a former prison warden.
He will travel from Khaimba in Mumias District where his parents met and got married; Murang’a, where he was born and baptised; Mombasa, where he had his First Holy Communion.
He will also travel to Ruaraka, where he received the Sacrament of Confirmation; Thika, where he was ordained to Diaconate; back to Ruaraka, where he was ordained to priesthood; and then, finally, to Karen, his current Parish of Apostolate, translating into 2 million steps.
The 60 day Journey of Faith has been inspired by Pope Francis’ recent challenge to every Catholic faithful across the world to take a spiritual pilgrimage in 2016.
The Pope declared 2016 the Year of Divine Mercy.
The Journey of Faith will be flagged off on March 12, at Regina Caeli Catholic Parish, Karen.
