A local investor has moved in to murrum a section of Mamboleo-Chemelil-Muhoroni road as motorists continue to incur losses resulting from the pathetic condition of the road.
Ndugu Transport Company on Sunday started the works of murruming the road to mitigate the dangers posed to motorists plying the route.
An officer from the Company, Albert Atieno said for over 20 years, the road had been in bad condition.
Mr Atieno said the road has been neglected with no maintenance by the national government forcing private companies to step in.
He said the route has many establishments like sugar mills, universities, construction firms among others noting that the backbone of Kisumu County is in the area.
“It has been out of good will from Ndugu and other associates to maintain the road," he said.
Mr Atieno said Ndugu Company is spending like Sh500,000 per day to carry out the work that has been hailed by the locals.
The Chairman, Mamboleo Matatu Association Ibrahim Oloo said the government had neglected their plea to have the road constructed.
Oloo said many matatus are now shunning the Mamboleo route.
Another resident, Tom Ogweno said the two governments must ensure the road is permanently constructed to alleviate the sufferings of the locals.
Mr Ogweno said having proper roads is a right of the people who voted the two governments in office and should not abdicate their role to private companies.
Early November, locals planted bananas along the road paralysing transport.
That same week, President Uhuru Kenyatta on a visit to Kisumu promised that the road would be given priority but fell short to give the time frame the road construction will begin.
The locals have faulted their elected leaders for failing to articulate their issues that needed to be addressed to the national government.
