Workers from the public works department in Nyamira County have been put on notice over allegations that some of them siphon fuel from county vehicles.

This comes a day after the county’s roads and public works CeC Dr Janet Komenda and her team were grilled by the County Assembly Public Accounts Committee over claims of misappropriation of funds.

Addressing the workers who comprised of drivers and mechanics in her office on Wednesday, the furious CeC said those who will be found culpable of the act will be sacked immediately and have their positions advertised.

“Our spending is wanting and I won’t tolerate this anymore. I can’t always be summoned to answer issues that directly link some of you to misconducts. Whoever will be found siphoning fuel for business other than using it for designated job will be sacked and be replaced immediately,” she said.

She said some of the workers were under investigations for allegedly siphoning hundreds of liters of diesel and said their names will be made public when investigations are concluded.

“I want to inform you in advance that some of you are under investigations. The department has lost hundreds of liters of diesel through smuggling and this is unacceptable. We will publish the names and those who will be in the list should start preparing their defense. Public resources ought to be used for intended purposes,” she said.
