Susan Mueni from Kibera has been crowned the Queens Young Leader award. She was announced by an initiative for Kibera which works with aid in association with Africa organization.
Carolina Foe Kibera is an organisation which fights abject poverty and helps prevent violence through community-based development in Kibera slum. The organisation fights to promote youth leadership through sports and young women development. Mueni won the award after holding mentorship programs for children in Kibera and referring soccer matches in the area. This is one way Kibera children will learn about development and equality. Susan is also studying to become a teacher. Following this, Susan is set to enjoy a one week residency in the United Kingdom. During the stay, she will receive her award from the queen.
The Queens Young Leadership award is important because it will not only give Mueni a chance to meet with the queen but will also show her that her efforts to train small kids in soccer is not in vein,’ said her fun Monica waweru. She is meant to meet the queen in June. Her expenses will be fully catered for.
Vane Aminga, a Kibera resident, took on social media to congratulate the young mind who did not fear any competition from other youths from countries of the British Commonwealth.
