Uasin Gishu deputy governor Daniel Chemno has urged the Internal Security ministry to replace police officers who have either been transferred or retired in the county to tame the rising insecurity.

Speaking in his office Monday, Chemno said in the past two years, security officers in the county have either been transferred while others retired yet no replacement has been made thereby compromising the region's security.

“Insecurity in Uasin Gishu County has increased due to lack of enough police officers, the major reason being that they were either transferred or retired from duty," he stated.

He wondered why banks are being guarded by over two police officers at a time while there are no enough officers to provide security to the public.

“Why is it that money is given more priority than individuals. Does it mean security is only for the rich? I urge the national government to act with speed and replace officers who have either retired and transferred to guarantee residents of their security,” he said.

He challenged the Internal Security CS Joseph Nkaiserry to come up with a better policy that will entail equal distribution of police officers to guard wananchi.

At the same time, the deputy county boss urged the public to embrace the nyumba kumi initiative especially during this festive period by knowing those who live in their midst and report any suspicious characters to the police.
