Residents of Nyanchwa-Milimani Estate road have faulted Kisii County government for failing to rehabilitate Nyanchwa bridge which collapsed in November due to heavy rains.
In an interview with this writer on Wednesday, some road users said they risk falling into Nyanchwa River if the bridge is not repaired.
Some parents also said their children might also become victims, since there is a primary school nearby and that pupils use the bridge regularly.
"Since November we have been waiting for the county government to come and repair the bridge, but until now they haven't. The road towards the bridge is steep, if you are careless you can fall into the river especially at night," said Kevin Machuki, a bodaboda operator.
Last month, the county deployed over 1,000 youths to assist in mitigating El Nino rains effects in all wards in the county.
"As road users, we are not happy with the way our county is slow in acting on such matters yet funds were allocated to cater for road and bridges maintenance," he said.
They want the government to reconsider repairing the bridge or else they will hold demonstrations.
