Residents of Kiogoro Kisii County have been cautioned against planting trees along power cables saying it is a security risk.
Speaking yesterday in Kiogoro after power was interrupted when trees were brought down to fit in power lines, Mike Odhiambo a Kenya power official has cautioned the residents to be cautious when planting trees.
According to the officer, residents have the tendency of planting trees along power lines forgetting that they will grow and become a problem in future.
"Ensure you plant trees several meters from the electric power lines," said Odhiambo.
"We have had to bring down a number of trees to pave the way for the power cables," added Odhiambo.
He cautioned the residents that their safety is paramount and they ought to be careful.
"During heavy rains and storms, some branches may break down and fall on the power cables," said Odhiambo.
"This is very risky for the residents. Take responsibility to ensure your safety is protected," he added.
He also told the residents to report risk cases such as trees that hang close to power lines.
"Ensure emergencies or any risky condition is reported as early as possible. We are there to serve you," said Odhiambo.
