Residents of Kariaini village in Kirenga Ward, Lari Sub-County, have urged the police to intensify security and address cases of insecurity in the area.
The residents said there has been an increase in criminal activities in the area and asked police to intervene. According to the locals, cases of robberies targeting homes are on the rise.
Speaking to this writer on Monday, the residents said that criminal gangs composed of young people are behind the series of robberies that have bben reported in the area.
Geoffrey Kamau, a resident, said that some of the crimes are conducted in broad day light.
He said that the criminal gangs operate in groups and invade homes when owners are not around.
“We have reported three cases where homes have been broken into and household items and property stolen in the last three weeks,” said Kamau.
Jane Osore, a resident, said that her home was broken into by unknown people on Saturday night.
She said that she reported the matter to the police who have launched investigations.
The residents now want the security personnel in the area to intensify patrols and crack the whip on the said criminals.
Addressing residents on Tuesday when she attended a meeting at the Uplands Chiefs camp, area assistant chief Alice Ngugi said the residents’ concerns are being investigated.
The assistant chief asked locals to work with police and provide information that will help in the arrest of the criminals.
Speaking at Uplands estate in Lari on Tuesday, Lari Sub-County Commissioner Aron Koros assured residents of their security.
