Nakuru West residents now want a car wash businesses operating in parts of Nakuru to be shut.

The residents claimed the businesses are responsible for the water shortage that has been experienced in the area.

The residents claimed there were more than 15 car washing bays on the Kolen- Kaptembwa road and they never lack water.

“The interesting thing is that they do not have any water reservoir and yet they have never lacked water. We feel that our water is being diverted to them yet we are the ones who really need the water,” said Wairimu Chege.

Wairimu pointed out that a lot of water was also being wasted in the area.

“How comes we rarely get water in our homes? In fact we only get water on Tuesdays and Fridays. The funny bit is that every day they are involved in the washing of cars,” said Margaret Wanjiru.

Peter Muchemi said the bays were also creating traffic jam in the area.

“Many of the cars there are stalled and hence affecting the movements along that road. This is despite the fact that it is a very busy area,” he said.

Attempts to get comment from leaders of the car washing bays were futile as all officials contacted by this writer were unwilling to comment about the issue.
