Rironi residents in Limuru sub county have appealed to Kiambu County government to install street lights in the area to boost security.

The residents say that installation of security lights will allow them to conduct their business even at night, without the fear of being attacked.

Speaking to this writer on Monday at Rironi shopping center, Stephen Kamau, a trader said that security will improve if the lights are installed.

He said that some criminals take advantage of the darkness to rob pedestrians and residents.

“The county government through the leadership of governor William Kabogo should install street lights so that we can do our work without fear of being attacked by goons and also to enable us work throughout the night,” said Kamau.

Kamau said that installation of lights will also encourage a 24 hour economy, in the process, boosting the economy of the area.

Ms Jane Osore, a mitumba clothes seller in the area said most traders are forced to close their business early for fear of attacks from goons.

She intimated that installation of street lights will give traders confidence of conducting business at night.

“Street lights have been installed in other parts of this county, we want our leaders to all ensure we have the same facilities,” she said.

The residents appealed to their MP John Kiragu to push their concern to the county government.

Speaking during a Youth conference held at Kiambu headquarters Friday last week, governor Kabogo said his government had made strides in infrastructure development.

He said that various projects including repair and installation of street lights were ongoing across the county.

Kabogo said his government intends to complete all development projects before 2017.
