Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga who has been undergoing treatment in London has returned to the country.
Ruth arrived on Wednesday to attend the joint Annual Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Fidel Odinga memorial to be held on Saturday.
Ms Odinga, who has been away for weeks arrived in Kisumu on Friday from Naivasha from where she attended a deputy governor's meeting and will on Saturday be in Bondo to attend the memorial service.
“I left the meeting with other deputy governors in Naivasha, because I could not miss this function,” said Ms Odinga.
She will be accompanied by other Kisumu politicians and other Cord leaders from all over the country for the event.
The annual event which takes place every January is expected to attract prominent persons from not only Kenya, but also Africa as friends of Raila come to join Raila’s family in commemorating the 22nd anniversary of the late Jaramogi.
Politicians from within and outside Nyanza region are expected to attend.
Orange Democratic Movement party politics are also expected to take a centre stage as the region positions itself to strengthen the outfit and push for a Raila Presidency come 2017.
The memorial started yesterday with private morning prayers at Jaramogi’s home and later a public lecture at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology.
The lecture attracted scholars, leaders, students and the general public who thronged the institution to listen to speakers such as Dr Tom Odhiambo, a senior lecturer, Department of Literature at the University of Nairobi.
