Kisii Senator Chris Obure has defended the role of Senate in defending interests of the devolved units of governments.

Speaking in the ongoing Kisii Entrepreneurship Summit, Obure seemed to slam governors who have been questioning the commitment of Senate in fighting for the interests of the county governments.

According to Obure, the Senate has played an instrumental role in pushing for more allocation for development to the counties by the national government.

“The Senate has remained committed to pushing for allocation of more resources. We are the custodians of devolution and I can bet that we have done a wonderful job. We have managed to push c,county allocations from Sh197 billion in 2013 to over Sh300 billion in a the financial year 2016. Our interest in fighting for devolution to prosper has remained on course,” he said.
