The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has called on the government to send the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to Migingo Island.

This will not be a friendly visit though. KDF are to find out why exactly the Ugandan government stopped the registration if voters in the area by IEBC officials.

The Uganda Police stopped the exercise in the area saying they had not received any communication from the Kenyan government and that the Island was at the centre of the Kenya-Uganda dispute.

Ugunja MP, Opiyo Wandayi said on Thursday, during a press conference that the KDF should be deployed at the Island to oversee the voter registration exercise. He called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to clarify to Kenyans if the Island is in Kenya or Uganda since both countries say the Island belongs to them.

‘‘The 1.5 acre piece of land is the centre of conflict between Kenyan fishermen and Ugandans. We want the president to come out clearly and tell us if the island is in Kenya or not,’’ he said.

He, however, threatened that if the 48 hours he and the ODM party has given the president to act upon the matter elapses without having being act upon, they will take action on their own.

He said Jubilee was trying to sabotage the voter registration in CORD’s stronghold to make them not win the 2017 elections.
