Residents of Lower Solai in Nakuru county are living in fear of contracting cholera due to blocked toilets as a result of floods caused by heavy rains in the area. The residents who are dependent on boreholes have also decried the state of borehole water that now gathers dirty water whenever it rains.

“It is a sorry state for us since our only source of water are the boreholes which are currently gathering all the filth from the roads and overflowing toilets. It will not be a surprise if we contract cholera possibly because of the state of the water we are drinking," Simon Kandie, one of the residents said.

Mr. Kandie said that cases of sinking toilets are also in the rise due to the texture of the soil in the area, a situation that is threatening the lives of residents.

Last week, more than 5 resident in Maji Tamu village reported sinking toilets including a school toilet in Kiambogo Nursery, a situation which the residents say may call for early closure of schools in the area.

Nakuru chief public health officer Samuel Kingori has promised to look into the issue

"We intend to help curb any possibilities of an outbreak of any disease," he said.
