A chief in Lower Solai, Nakuru has urged the county government to tap into tourism in the region by revamping roads to attract more visitors.
Tourism in Solai that hosts main attractions such as Lake Solai, Maji Tamu hills, Chamuka springs and striking landscape remains unexplored due to impassable roads which have discouraged tourists.
“The county government can tap into the unexplored tourism by creating an excellent tourism belt that connects visitors from Lake Nakuru through Lake Elementaita to Thomsons Falls, Lake Solai, Maji Tamu hills and to Lake Bogoria with ease,” Ruiyobei chief Mark Mogotio said.
He said refurbishing the main road that will connect Subukia and Solai sub-counties to Lake Bogoria will solve the visitors’ woes of looking for alternative routes while creating an excellent one-way tourism belt.
“There are numerous tourist destination sites in Solai but poor roads are hampering the business which could be generating millions of shillings in revenue,” Mogotio said.
The chief said Solai is a land-locked area that offers excellent nature trails and Safaris but the area has been recording a little number of visitors due to the nature of roads.
He said Lake Solai is a great destination, which still remains little-known despite being one of the famous lakes in Rift Valley.
He said the area is an excellent spot for paragliding activities; a sport which he said can make the area a re-known.
“The magnificent Maji Tamu hills are an attraction on its own, hosting bird species as well as creating an excellent hiking place and nature trails. The hills also host a great but little known spring known as Chamuka springs but all these remains little explored due to impassable roads in the area,” he added.
