Nyamira County Assembly Speaker Joash Nyamoko has denied claims from a section of opposition members of shielding the county executive arm in assembly debates.

This comes after revelations by a section of minority members led by Leader of Minority Jackson Mogusu that Nyamoko was keen to remove motions that directly linked the executive to slow progress in the assembly.

Mogusu and his Mekenene counterpart Alfayo Ngeresa Monday also claimed the minority’s views were discriminated with the speaker being careful to block them from advancing change in the assembly.

“We are frustrated with the speaker’s leadership. We have tried to bring motions as the minority but they rarely get to the order paper. We have also raised issues about the governor but the motions rarely see the floor of the house," he said.

However, Nyamoko in an exclusive interview said he was guided by the standing orders of the house and was keen to listen to both sides of the house on pressing matters.

“I don’t take orders from the executive because we are an independent house. I think they are blaming me on matters that do not exist. They may come with motions in the house but the majority will always have a say. It’s upon them to do lobbying before tabling motions,” he said.

The flamboyant speaker said he was keen to make independent judgments that were for the best interest of the assembly.

“The assembly seeks to oversight and legislates. I am not a madman to block motions that are for good being of our people. The allegations for those members are not valid and are meant to spoil my reputation,” he said.
