Senator Kimani Wamatangi has urged the Registrar of Persons to speed up issuance of Identification Cards to new applicants.

The senator while speaking to journalists in Kiambu town on Thursday alleged slowness in processing and issuance of IDs to new applicants.

Wamatangi said that many new voters are likely to be locked out of the next week’s voter’s registration if they are not given IDs on time.

“The registrar of persons and government agencies involved in processing and issuance of IDs should speed up and make new applicants have the documents before the voter registration starts,” said the senator.

Wamatangi alleged that some people were keen to lock out new applicants from the voter registration exercise scheduled to start on Monday next week.

The senator said that it is a democratic right for every citizen to take part in voter exercises.

Wamatangi at the same time urged ID applicants who have not collected their documents to do so before the voter exercise begins.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission will start the one month voter registration exercise on Monday next week.
