Student leaders in Maseno University have been asked to practice a transformative type of leadership during their tenure of serving students.
This massage was emphasised during a leadership summit that was held at Trinity Center near Maseno on Wednesday.
The Summit aimed at providing leadership skills to new student leaders in Maseno who got elected last year.
It was also designated at neutralising all issues that could result to any kind of student unrest.
Speaking at the function, Professor Mary J Kipsat, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics and Student Affairs in Maseno University asked the young leaders to uphold transparency in all facets of their leadership.
She said lack of transparency is bad even in the country’s leadership.
She also admonished them to always respect authority as respect is the primary virtue any leader at any level must possess.
“Ensure that you leave a transformative mark that will carry your legacy even long after you have gone,” she said.
The Dean of Students in the institution Mr Kweya Opande also told the leaders to ensure proper management of their power and anything under their jurisdiction.
“This is your first line of management,” he said.
Professor Mary J Kipsat assured scholarships to Master’s degree programs to any three of the leaders if anyone among them achieved commendable and transformative levels either in academics, discipline or leadership.
