An MCA in Matungulu on Thursday told parents to take responsibility and ensure the safety of their children particularly while walking on the road.
Matungulu West MCA Salome Mutua said school going children should be accompanied by adults to their institutions of learning.
This, she said, would guarantee their safety while on the road.
"Let us not as parents be ignorant to our children's safety but instead protect them because we have already witnessed several deaths of people getting carried away by rain waters," said Salome.
Ms Mutua said children are leaders of tomorrow and it was everyone's responsibility to take good care of them.
She said parents must play a leading role in nurturing young people.
She spoke while addressing the press in her office in Matungulu.
She said her office would mobilise development funds to complete stalled development projects.
