Uasin Gishu county assembly Speaker Isaac Terer wants students who were moved from Garissa University to Moi University's main campus after the April al Shabaab attack vetted.

Speaking in Eldoret on Wednesday, Terer said there was need for the learners to be vetted to ensure there are no al Shabaab elements among them.

“I want to join other leaders in supporting the vetting of Garissa students currently studying at the main campus to clearly identify each one of them. This is a noble task that will ensure any security threats are dealt with,” Terer said.

Last week, students at the university vacated their hostels over terror fears.

Further, Vice Chancellor Prof Richard Mibei and County Commissioner Abdi Hassan confirmed that two of the four students who are alleged to have fled to Somalia were born in the county.

However, commenting on the same, Terer demanded speedy investigations into the matter to ascertain their whereabouts.

“This is a serious issue that needs thorough investigations to find out who the students are and the plans they have in their hideout,” Terer added.

Garissa University was closed indefinitely after al Shabaab militants raided the college on April 2, killing 147 people most of them students.

Uasin Gishu County lost seven students in attack.
