Kibera residents have urged landlords to ensure their estates are having water 24/7 to curb the water crisis that has affected tenants in the last 4 days.
The Kibera water shortage has been reported as a result of poor maintenance of water pipes and boreholes having dried up.
Speaking at the Laini Saba estate, Geoffrey Kirera, a resident at Laini Saba estate said that landlords should ensure there is plenty of water served to tenants since tenants are charged to pay water bills after the end of every month
“Nairobi Water Company has a capability and potential of serving millions of people with clean water but it is unfortunate that we still experience water shortages and crisis because of failed maintenance of water pipes which should be fixed in time,” Kirera said.
“For this reason, therefore, landlords should follow up the matter to ensure there is water 24/7 in the estates since in the last 4 days we have not received water and this has cost us much buying water from vendors who sell expensively 20 litre jerrycans cost sh30,” said Kirera.
He also urged landlords to start digging up more boreholes at living premises to help tenants get enough water to avoid another incident like this.
The area secretary for landlords, Philip Mabuka, who owns an estate at Laini Saba said that as landlords, they are following up the matter at the Nairobi Water Company offices as to why there is no water flowing in the area and once the reasons are stated, the tenants will be notified.
