Machakos County Senator Johnstone Muthama has told investors that there is no free land in the county, as promised by Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.
Speaking in Tala Town on Monday during his nephew's burial ceremony, Muthama claimed that the governor misled the investors by promising free land that belongs to the people of Machakos, without proper public participation and consultation.
He went further to allege that Mutua promised investors non-existent land and called on the National Lands Commission Chairman Mohammed Swazuri, to leave the land in the county to the people of Machakos.
Muthama said devolution dictates the land belongs to the locals and giving it out for free without their consent is a breach of the constitution.
"The people of Machakos should be involved in matters concerning them. The governor should keep that in mind,” said Muthama.
He decried continued alleged deception of the governor regarding development projects in Machakos, accusing him of using the county’s money to launch his new Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement around the country.
