Thika OCPD Erastus Muthamia has urged residents to expose criminal gangs living among them in a bid to curb crime in the area.

Addressing members of the public in Thika Town on Monday, the OCPD said that the area will a crime free zone if suspected criminals are exposed.

The OCPD said he had received reports that some residents in the area were harbouring criminals.

Muthamia said that provision of security is not the responsibility of the police alone noting that members of the public have to play their role.

The OCPD said that though security officials have put in place proper apparatus to fight crime, residents have to supplement their efforts.

“Members of the public should not hide criminals and instead must expose any criminal elements that could be hiding among them and help us fight crime effectively,” said Muthamia.

Muthamia said that police are on high alert this Christmas season, adding that they will not tolerate any form of lawlessness.

The Thika OCPD asked residents to abide by the law and cooperate with the police in a bid to ensure law and order in the area.

Kiambu County commissioner Mr Alex Nkoyo while speaking at Thika town over the weekend said security mechanisms have been put in place to guarantee security of residents.

He asked residents to be vigilant and report suspicious acts and individuals to the police for immediate action to be taken against them.
