Three Masinga Boys Secondary School students were arrested on Friday at a traffic police road block along the Nairobi-Garissa highway for smoking bhang in a public service vehicle.
Confirming the incident, Yatta OCPD Edward Kipsang said the traffic police had to search the entire bus when they smelt bhang after stopping the vehicle for a traffic check.
"Bhang is an illegal drug in Kenya and it is a surprise that the conductor and the driver of the vehicle allowed the students to smoke it in their vehicle," said Kipsang.
The OCPD said that upon conducting a search, the three students were found in possession of four rolls of bhang each.
Kipsang urged school principals to always carry out drug inspections especially in boys high schools.
He also urged Masinga residents to provide information about people who sell drugs to students.
The conductor and the driver were also arrested for carrying excess passengers.
The five were taken to Kithimani Police station and will be arraigned in court on Monday.
