The former director of the NYS unit, Nelson Githinji, is alleged to have used the NYS money for private benefits. Following this, the director of public prosecutions (DPP), Keriako Tobiko, has ordered an immediate prosecution of the former director.

According to Tobiko's press statement on Thursday, there is enough evidence to the said allegations. He now wants Githinji charged for servicing a private car using public money. According to Tobiko, the car was serviced at sh497, 335. Githinji was accused alongside two employees at the National Youth Service (NYS) management. They are also supposed to be charged. The two are Nicholas Makokha who was the NYS chief inspector and Geoffrey Kiriha, senior superintendent mechanic at the agency.

One Kibera resident on Thursday said this was a good way of fighting corruption and misuse of power.

'' Let the culprits be arrested and charged. They used their positions to misuse the funds meant for the public. It will be a lesson to others who are misusing public funds for personal gain,'' said a source who asked to remain anonymous.
