Transport was paralysed on Friday in Kisumu following a road block mounted near the Airport in Kisumu to crack down on unroadworthy vehicles and unlicensed drivers.

Most travellers plying the Kisumu-Busia road found themselves stranded after most PSV vehicles operating in that road did not go for work for fear of the officers.

“I cannot risk Sh50,000 while I can avoid the mess. My boss will not understand that there was a crackdown,” said John Mwangi, a driver in Kisumu.

“I do not understand why this people like exploiting PSV operators. It was not long they were here mounting road blocks and harassing us. I had to pay Sh30,000 to be allowed on the road for merely having a broken side mirror,” said Albanas Ochieng a driver.

Travelers on the other hand were inconvenienced.

“I have been here since morning hoping I will get a car to Kisumu but the operators only carry up-to Daraja Mbili and drop the passengers. I hope this crackdown ends soon,” said Betty Kasumbi a student of Maseno City Campus.
