Teachers Service Commission is calling for a concerted effort among government education officials to help in the ongoing performance contracting and appraisals for teachers.

The Commission Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia said TSC will depend on education officers to carry out the exercise effectively.

Macharia said the performance contracting and appraisals entails a lot that they must rely on other government education players.

She said the Commission will be looking at the finances, infrastructure, curriculum and examinations.

“As a Commission we don’t know the capabilities of the head teachers but the ministry of education officers know, that is why we need their help,” she said.

Addressing education officers in Kisumu drawn from all counties in the country, Macharia said the exercise will redeem the image of the sector.

She said the Commission will bank on support from other players to be able to streamline the sector and enforce some of the regulations.

Macharia said that it is not the duty of the Commission alone to monitor absenteeism by teachers in schools but should be a concern for all the education players.

Teachers’ unions have been up in arms over the ongoing process of being in “total disregard of all laid down procedures and in blatant defiance of the laws provided for under Chapter 10 of the Constitution and Section 13 of the Teachers Service Commission Act”.
