Two people died on the spot while two sustained serious injuries on Thursday night after a saloon car they were travelling in lost control and fell into a ditch along Thika Road.
According to Thika deputy traffic police commander John Lisoi, the accident occurred due to drunk-driving.
He said the victims and the deceased had spent more than 5 hours drinking in Thika town before they decided to leave at around 1:00am.
Police from a nearby station and members of public rescued the injured and rushed them to Thika Level 5 hospital.
“The driver lost control of the vehicle and veered of the road into a ditch. The police arrived at the scene shortly and they rushed the injured to the hospital,” Lisoi said.
The police boss called on motorists to exercise extra care.
