Uasin Gishu county farmers have come together and bought a weighbridge that will prevent them from being exploited by public weigh bridge operators at the National Cereals and Produce Board.

Speaking in Eldoret town on Wednesday, Jane Jepkorir a farmer said that the machine was bought through the combined efforts of farmers in the county.

"Seeing the problems that we faced as farmers we decided to come together and buy a weighbridge that costed Kshs. 5 million," she said.

She said that the weighbridge will save them time from queuing for their produce to be measured at the National Cereals and Produce Board.

She said that at least they will now get the actual weight that their produce weigh.

"There is a lot of corruption at the weigh bridge where your produce can only be measured after paying some money making us to run at loss," she said.

She urged farmers to come in large numbers and use the machine since its prices are subsidized.
