Unlicensed traders in Kisumu County have two weeks to get the vital document or risk closure of their businesses.

Kisumu county business licence and permit officer Simeon Asunga said Thursday some of the traders in the area have given the documents a wide berth.

Asunga who spoke to this writer at the Carwash shopping centre said the traders have two weeks to register with the licensing office, failure to which they’ll face dire consequences which could lead to closure of their businesses.

He said traders who evade licensing could be running illegal businesses.

“Never start a venture and forget to get a permit for it. The document legalises the trader’s business and also allows him/her to engage in a lawful business within a given location preferred by the owner,” the licensing officer said.

Elvis Njoronge who runs a retail shop, echoed the officer’s remarks and urged his fellow traders without the document to apply for it.
