Farmers in Gatundu North sub county have been advised to re-double their efforts in crop production following enhanced rains being received in the area.

Beatrice Mueni, the sub county health and environment head noted that the region and especially around Gakoe region which is endowed with rich soil is obtaining sufficient rains after a long period.

Speaking from Gakoe where she visited Gakoe farmers on Saturday 21st November 2015, Mueni said that crop farmers have been provided with seeds by the government for free and therefore urged them to put them into proper use.

"Re-double your efforts in food production by taking advantage of the ongoing rains," she told farmers.

The environment administrator further said that residents who have for a long time depended on river irrigation water had a chance to harness water and store it for future use.

Mueni further advised farmers to continue planting trees in the area to maintain the good tea growing environment.

"This area is well known for huge production of tea but without trees that attract rainfall, things will worsen come sunny seasons; please take the initiative of planting trees in your shambas and your homesteads," she said.
