St. Paul’s University, Nakuru campus has launched a mentorship programme targeting form four leavers to commence in the first week of February.
The programme, according to the campus coordinator Dr Paul Gesimba, aims at mentoring the young men and women who have just completed high school.
"There is always a disconnect in transition from high school to college or university for the form four leavers. While in high school, there were strict rules, regulations and a teacher always going after them on the dos and donts. However, in college or university there is freedom, and sometimes one can get lost easily due to peer pressure,’’ explained Gesimba.
The youth career and mentorship programme is designed to take seven weeks offered full time, and the modules covered include, computer packages, career guidance, communication and public speaking, personal development studies, sex and reproductive health, drug and substance abuse, counselling, time management and talks from different key personalities who have made huge successes.
The campus coordinator further said the programme will boost their self-confidence keeping them focused while they join colleges and throughout their live.
‘’The group of people are very energetic and if we don’t mentor and channel their energy to positive use they might end up using their energy negatively.’’ Commented, Dr. Gesimba.
He also added that the university will charge them fairly for the course.
